Plus size sleepwear exclusively for women may be purchased above size fourteen. The spread of sizes in plus size sleepwear more often than not contain the letter "W" (i.e. 14W), where the W means "Women". Plus size sleepwear have frequently been called "Women's Sizes". Plus size sleepwear are most often found to be in a department of their own or even in a specialty boutique that caters exclusively for ladies who wear plus size sleepwear. Plus size sleepwear are generally sold by the size numbers 14,16,18, etc. or with X, which means extra large. Plus size manufacturers use this term with a range of numbers 1X, 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X, and 6X. Occasionally plus size sleepwear that are greater than size 24 or 3X are normally known as "Super Size".
Historically, quite a lot of women who wore plus size sleepwear had difficulty finding fashionable clothing in plus sizes. With the success of the Internet, the wide selection now available to plus-size females and plus-size young adults has increased tremendously. Many internet women's clothing stores stock either some or focus solely on plus size women's clothing.
