Plus sized women face many problems when it comes to clothing shopping. You are faced with awful looking moo-moo fashions or clothing that is to risque or too trendy. Now imagine when a plus sized woman wants to start shopping for workout clothing but finds it challeneging because even the specialty plus sized clothing shops do not offer many options.
I can totally understand and relate with why larger women are upset at their limited choices. Especially when the stores that are designed for larger women do not even offer athletic clothing, such as Lane Bryant or Torrid. It’s as though they never even thought that larger women wouldn’t be interested in getting healthy. It’s more frustrating to be in between the womens and plus sized sizes. I am a size– but am able to wear womens size large and extra large tops but yet I can only fit in a handful of athletic tops in sporting goods stores like the Nike store and Sportsmart.
This leaves larger women with only one option, they have to buy large over sized t-shirts. I used to even buy men’s t-shirts because an extra large men’s t-shirt was just right for a size 22 woman. Ok, so after they “settle” for some over-sized t-shirt then then need to find a sports bra. oh no! They can’t! Finding a plus sized sports bra is worse than shopping for work out gear. They are nearly non-existent and if someone offers a “plus sized” sports bra they usually only go up to size 40-DD.
If you want an instant confidence boost, wear clothing that makes you feel good. Well that’s my motto at least and I am pretty certain a lot of women also feel this way. So if you want to make some serious health changes, invest in a good plus sized sports bra. I promise you, a good sports bra will make or break your healthy efforts. If a workout hurts you because you feel your breasts causing too much strain and discomfort then you aren’t going to want to do it again. At the same time, if you can workout with no pain due to your chest jiggling, you are more likely to move forward with your workouts.
Ok so now that we have an understanding of why a plus sized bra is important for working out, just where can you buy them? I already made it pretty obvious that plsu sized stores have a disappointing selection IF they even offer workout clothing. I have seen Target offers Champion sports bras up to size XXL but unfortunately you had better expect to double up your sports bras in order to get just half way decent support.
10 years ago when I was a size 22, I remember buying a few sports bras from Target and when I compare those types of sports bras to the ones I have now, it amazes me that I would even have considered purchasing the Target ones. Not with today’s options of plus sized sports bras made by Moving comfort, ENELL and Shock Absorber. You can buy these amazing sports bras for about $40-90.00 through stores like Amazon or roadrunnersports.
Lilianna offers a great list of the best sports bras and specifically her favorite plus size sports bra.
