Yvon Chouinard is the founder of Patagonia, a company founded in 1972 in Ventura, California. This company began making clothing for outdoor activities including hiking, rock climbing, surfing, and skiing. The company has given approximately 25 million dollars to environmental groups and is one of the most environmentally friendly company in the United States. Patagonia shoes for women are very comfortable and look good on the feet. Patagonia produced womens’ boots, sandals and shoes and offer them in sizes from 2.5 up to 14.

In 2009 Patagonia won the Best Outdoor Vegan Shoe Retailer given by PETA for some of their styles that are made with other materials besides leather or other products from animals. The company prides itself on production with the environment in mind so they do not produce much waste and what they do they recycle. Materials used to make their shoes include hemp and latex. They take the scraps they produce in making the shoes and incorporate them into the soles so they have less waste that have to go into trash.

One of the most popular hiking boot is the Riverwalker. The sole can be either felted or studded and costs about $180. Synthetic leather is used on the top of the boot and will dry quickly if made wet by wading into a river bed. Notches in the sole are placed strategically so that the boot will bend naturally with the foot. This sole will prevent any stone bruising from sharp stones underfoot and will also ensure that the foot is stable even while in a river bed or bank. The boot is a bit wider so that you can wear heavier socks and there is padding in the ankle and insole area.

Patagonia also makes a ballet flat called the Hatha. This shoe has an interesting adjustable strap that cradles the top of the foot in an X formation. The shoe is covered on the upper with a mesh that allows the shoe to repel wetness. The pigskin leather lining makes this shoe very durable and comfortable. About 20 percent of the foot bed is created from recycled material while rubber is the ingredient for the sole. The shoe comes in brown, black and khaki for around $85.

You can slip your foot into Patagonia’s Gypsum that has a sole made of recycled rubber and will never let it get wet. The cushioned foot bed is especially constructed for the shape of a woman’s foot. The upper part of the shoe is made from environmentally acceptable leather and has side gussets to allow the shoe to give when putting it on then tighten back up once the foot is in. This shoe is either red, brown or black and costs $120.

The Alkali is a sandal with a diamond in the center of the foot with straps going down to the pig skin lining and suede foot bed. This sandal will conform to the shape of your foot after a few weeks of wear. The midsole is jute wrapped and heavily cushioned for comfort. The sole is rubber and 20 percent recycled material. You can pick this sandal up for about $80 in teakwood, brown, and green.

This is just a sampling of what Patagonia has to offer in all styles of womens’ shoes. You can pick from many other boots including those great for snow, climbing and hiking. There is a variety of shoes available as there are sandals and all are made with the environment in mind.

Today Patagonia shoes for women specifically Patagonia Honeydew are immensely popular as some of the most comfortable shoes around. They make boots, shoes and sandals that come in sizes 2.5 to 14 as well as half sizes.
